Edinburgh born Jongleur’s marvel Rory Bremner lost out in BBC’s Strictly come dancing last weekend. The comedian made it to the 3rd week but he danced the Cha cha cha all the way out of the competition taking partner Erin Boag with him.
Edinburgh raised Rory couldn’t even leave with his head held high telling the press “I was going to say it was nice to leave with dignity. . . But then I caught sight of myself in the mirror with a spray tan and my buttons undone and thought I'm not quite sure I've done it! "But you've got to go for it. When it's a Latin dance, that's the nature of the part. Bruno wanted hip gyrations, so he got it full on. I tried to look butch, but it just ended up camp."
Political impressions have always been the cornerstone of Bremner’s act from his early spitting image impersonations right through to his 2 series as team captain on Mock the Week. However roles were reversed on Saturday when it was Bremmner leaving an impression on a politician as he nearly ended up in the lap of John Presscot who was watching the show live.
He revealed: "John Prescott was in the audience one week . . . I had to shimmy past him when I did the salsa. I knew he was going to be there, so I tried to block it out until after I'd exposed my full chest to him from about a foot away!
" I think they're grooming him and I think he might turn up on the show one day. . . I don't know if he'd be any good, but, put it this way, it would be quite an experience if I was sitting in the audience and he shimmied past me in the same shirt. . . I think that might have to be after the watershed!"
It was on our very own Jongleurs stage in where Bremner learnt his trade in the early 80’s
“Jongleurs Battersea was always my favorite venue. A huge room with an audience around you. It wasn’t daunting for me I loved it. Its where I learnt to do what I do”.
Former England Manager Sven Goran Eriksson’s ex wife Nancy joined him at the bottom of the board but was saved by the public. There were no hard feelings about getting voted out, Rory even claimed to be Nancy’s biggest fan even if for all the wrong reasons as he laughed last night: "Nancy is just so entertaining, isn't she?”
But Rory admitted: "I'd have voted for Nancy, too. I envy her self-confidence.
"She is wonderful and unique and really quite amazing in her own way." Nancy, he added, was oblivious to criticism of her dancing skills.
Rory explained: "It's not about humiliation in Nancy's case because she is totally immune to it. Does she genuinely think she's good?
